  • Ensure appropriate reporting of exceptions to policies and standards, or findings related to credit processes and controls, and remediation efforts are reported to the relevant governance committees and oversight groups.
  • Coordinate with analytics-facing 2LoD teams to solicit input and common thematic concerns on the efficiency and effectiveness of the credit risk management processes and controls and identify opportunities for on-going refinement, including seeking out opportunities to standardize credit processes across the first and second lines of defense leveraging best practices among departments, where feasible.
  • Monitor the frequency and type of credit underwriting policy exceptions to determine whether refinements to policies or guidance (e.g., RACs) may be required, and interact with the credit policy team to recommend refinements to processes and controls, as necessary.
  • Coordinate and review quality assurance testing on samples of transactions to monitor first line application of and adherence to credit underwriting standards and procedures to identify areas where additional communication and/or training is required on interpretation of policy, or where refinements to policy or procedure may be required.
  • Monitor examination feedback from Credit Review (CRVD), Internal Audit (IAD), external audit and regulators on credit process and control related findings to assess root causes and identify ways to improve the processes or controls to address the findings.
  • Coordinate with the Credit Policy team on periodic training content in connection with policy changes and/or develop training content in connection with process enhancements to improve transparency and ensure credit risk management practices and methodologies are consistently observed Interpersonal
  • Excellent verbal communication and collaboration skills to solicit input and translate feedback into opportunities to improve credit processes and controls.
  • Excellent writing and presentation development skills to draft credit committee agendas, content, minutes and other materials related to credit process observations and process and control enhancement opportunities.
  • Proven management and leadership skills with both direct reports, colleagues and senior management.
  • Able to work well across functions, ascertain and capture multiple points of view, render information so that it is accurate and actionable, and promptly follow-up.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and effectively at every level of the organization, including credit risk peers, LoB partners, senior executives, and external regulators.


  • Expert understanding of credit risk management concepts, proficient understanding of wholesale credit products, and knowledge of U.S. and international regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of the end-to-end lifecycle of credit (e.g., underwriting, ongoing monitoring, workout / collections) and working knowledge of credit risk management frameworks and systems (e.g., 3 lines of defense, risk appetite, risk ratings).
  • Deep experience with credit process management (i.e., approval flows; credit committee process and governance, etc.) related to credit approval and on-going monitoring
  • Strong knowledge of credit process controls and credit process / workflow optimization methodology and tools and content to bring transparency to the credit process and identify opportunities for standardization.
  • Strong analytical skills; intellectually curious; excellent problem-solving abilities and ability to break apart issues and come up to speed on new issues, attention to detail.
